Embedded Software Engineer
Develop embedded software and firmware for connected products — from smaller development tasks to larger international projects — together with our hardware, cloud and mechanics engineers.
A Swedish technology group.
Updal is a Swedish technology group built by experienced engineers and entrepreneurs with a passion for turning ideas into successful products.
We work across IoT, embedded systems and connected technology — helping customers take products from concept and development through certification, production and market launch. Our team covers hardware, firmware, software, mechanics and cloud solutions, either supporting customer teams or taking full responsibility for complete projects. But Updal is more than an engineering consultancy. We develop our own IoT products, invest in technology companies, and build new businesses and partnerships where our engineering experience and commercial mindset can make a difference.
We are a growing, entrepreneurial team where decisions are made quickly, ideas are encouraged, and people have the freedom and responsibility to make things happen.
Plenty of technology, plenty of variety.
At Updal Solutions, you'll work with embedded software and firmware in a wide range of customer projects — from smaller development tasks to larger international projects. In short: plenty of technology, plenty of variety, and hopefully not too many mysterious bugs on Friday afternoons. You'll develop software and firmware for embedded systems and work closely with our hardware engineers. You'll also help us build and improve our software platforms. If you understand hardware as well, even better — we like engineers who aren't afraid of what's happening on the other side of the PCB.
We think you have a few years of experience with embedded systems, connectivity, or products within consumer or industrial electronics. More importantly, you enjoy solving problems, learning new things and working together with both customers and colleagues. At Updal, we develop real products for the real world. We like smart solutions, short decision paths and people who take initiative.
Key responsibilities.
- 01
Embedded software design and development — from implementation and testing to integration, release and the inevitable bug fixing.

- 03
Work with continuous integration and development, including unit testing and automation.
- 04
Be the local technical link between our global development and manufacturing teams.
- 05
Design and develop APIs for customer applications.
- 06
Help turn technical requirements into solutions that actually work in the real world.
What we're looking for.
- 01
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering or a similar field.
- 02
At least 3 years of experience working with embedded systems.
- 03
Good knowledge of RTOS and Linux.
- 04
Experience programming microprocessors, microcontrollers (MPUs/MCUs) and wireless modems.
- 05
Good knowledge of ARM processors.
- 06
Hands-on experience with Zephyr RTOS.
- 07
Strong programming skills in C, C++ and Python.
- 08
Comfortable working with Git.
- 09
Experience developing HAL drivers.
- 10
You're not afraid of hardware and know your way around an oscilloscope, power supply and other lab equipment.
- 11
Experience with IoT protocols such as MQTT and CoAP.
- 12
And perhaps most importantly: you enjoy figuring out why something that should definitely work… doesn't.
Who thrives here.
- 01
Proactive — you see what needs to be done and get moving.
- 02
A quick learner who enjoys new technologies and challenges.
- 03
A team player who likes sharing ideas and solving problems together.
- 04
You have an eye for detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.
- 05
Professional and comfortable handling confidential information.
- 06
Confident working with and influencing colleagues, customers and partners at different levels.
- 07
Persistent and driven — you like getting things across the finish line.
- 08
Comfortable working independently, even when things get busy and priorities change.
- 09
And, of course, a sense of humor helps — especially when debugging.
